The History of the Yacht Flag Highest resolution of 15 August 1865. Permission to fly the yacht flag, consisting of the Danish naval ensign with the letters YF in gold in the upper square nearest the mast, is granted upon application by the Ministry of Marine, but only for decked vessels. The application, which must be stamped at a fee of 65 øre, must be accompanied by the vessel's tonnage certificate or certificate of nationality and registration. The yacht flag conveys no privilege whatsoever to the vessel with regard to port and ship dues. The permission to fly the yacht flag, which is valid only until the vessel changes owner and must be kept on board and presented on demand by the relevant authorities, is forfeited when the vessel is not used exclusively for pleasure sailing. In 1957, the requirement to apply for permission to fly the yacht flag was abolished.
