A terminal is used to hold the end of a steel wire in place so that the wire can only move in one direction. It can, for example, be used functionally to secure a structure, or architecturally for display purposes. In addition, they can be used to secure a mast in so-called stages, to stabilize the mast and thereby the boat.

Terminals are swaged onto the steel wire, meaning that a tool is used to compress the terminal around the steel wire to secure it to an anchor point.
