A terminal is used to grip the end of a steel wire so that the wire can only move in one direction. It can, for example, be used functionally to secure a structure, or architecturally for display purposes. In addition, they can be used to secure a mast in so-called shrouds, to stabilize the mast and thus the boat.

Terminals are normally swaged onto the steel wire, meaning that a special tool is used to crimp the terminal around the steel wire to secure it to an anchor point.

With swage-free terminals, there is no need for a special tool. Instead, you unscrew the terminal, insert the wire, and screw it back together to secure the steel wire.
