A pressure water pump works with a pressure switch that activates the pump if the pressure drops. The pressure drops when a tap is opened, and shortly after the pump starts and pumps water. When the tap is closed, the pressure in the hose rises and the pump stops. If you want to be able to use a small amount of water without necessarily activating the pump, an expansion tank can be fitted to the system.
