Capacity should be assessed based on the needs onboard. This includes, for example, the number of tap outlets and whether toilets are connected to the pressure water system. A freshwater pressure pump works with a pressure switch that activates the pump if the pressure drops. The pressure drops when a tap is opened, and shortly after that the pump will start and pressurize the water. When the tap is closed, the pressure in the hose rises and the pump will stop.

If you want to be able to use a small amount of water without necessarily activating the pump, it can be beneficial to install an expansion tank in the system. Water will then be drawn from the tank first, without the pump needing to start until the pressure has dropped.
