The aluminium anode can replace traditional zinc anodes. Aluminium anodes have several advantages over traditional zinc anodes. The alloy used to make the aluminium anode has a greater negative charge than zinc, as well as a longer service life, which means the anode is more active over a longer period.
In total, an aluminium anode produces about 70% more Amp/Hours over its service life than an equivalent traditional zinc anode. As a bonus, you cut the weight in half and save a little on the price.
NB: There must be no physical connection between aluminium and zinc anodes, as the aluminium anode will protect the zinc anode; therefore, all anodes on, for example, drives and outboard motors must be either aluminium or zinc. Aluminium can be used in both saltwater and brackish water.
Many manufacturers now use aluminium anodes as standard on their new engines and boats, e.g. Mercruiser, Mercury, Yanmar, Selva, Torqeedo, Princess and Sunseeker.
6 GOOD REASONS TO CHOOSE ALU ANODES::
- CADMIUM FREE: Free from cadmium, a heavy metal that is harmful to the environment.
- LASTS LONGER: 10% longer service life than a zinc anode.
- BETTER PROTECTION: Provides better protection than a zinc anode
- FOR SALTWATER & BRAKISH WATER: Used in both saltwater and brackish water (zinc anodes are only for saltwater).
- LIGHTER: 2.5 times lighter than zinc anodes
- ALUMINIUM BOATS: Ideal for protecting boats with aluminium hulls
