HEATER INSTALLATION:
- Diesel heaters make a little "rumbling" noise, so they should be placed in the stern/locker/engine room so the sound is not heard in the cabin (apart from a little airflow noise).
- The exhaust gas is led into a "gooseneck" up under the deck and then out through the side/stern.
- Fresh, oxygen-rich air is heated and led into the cabin(s) through air ducts.
- Air recirculation = repeated heating of warm air is not recommended.
- Fresh air is easier to "heat" than recirculated air.
- The space where the heater is installed must be well ventilated with sufficient access to "cold" fresh air.
- The heater's combustion air must either be routed to an open vent or drawn from outside (called balanced exhaust).
- Experience shows that the heater itself accounts for only about 50%. The marine accessories and the installation itself make up at least 50% of the finished result.
