INSTALLATION OF HEATERS:
- Diesel heaters make a little noise, so they should be placed in the stern/stowage locker/engine room so the sound is not heard in the cabin (apart from a little air noise).
- The exhaust gas is routed into a "gooseneck" up under the deck and then out through the side/stern.
- Fresh, oxygen-rich air is heated and led into the cabin(s) through air ducts.
- Air recirculation = repeated heating of warm air is not recommended.
- Fresh air is easier to "heat" than recirculated air.
- The space in which the heater is installed must be well ventilated with sufficient access to "cold" fresh air.
- The heater's combustion air must either be routed to an open vent or drawn from outside (called balanced exhaust).
- Experience shows that the heater itself is "only" about 50%. Marine accessories and the actual installation make up at least 50% of the finished result.
